Welcome!
Greetings!
Welcome back to a brand new and exciting new school year!! I hope you all had a wonderfully relaxing summer and were able to spend it with family and friends. I spent the first month of summer working in the yard and the second month traveling to visit daughters in Louisville, Table Rock and Los Angeles. The oldest and I even managed to do a five day cruise!
With an increase in students (9th graders at Central High School in Salina) and several students who aren’t even starting school until after Labor Day, I’ve been extremely busy trying to “get ahead of the game.” I’m not really sure that ever happens, but my goal is to hit the road running when the 2nd of September hits.
I have seen some groups once. some twice, and had communication via email with several others. Schedules won’t be complete for a bit as they often have to be “tweaked” once everyone has been in session for at least a few days.
This year will be much as it has been in the past. As communication is SO vital to the positive education of your students, I have been working on this web site. It will give you 24 hour access to information I’m often distributing or asked about.
You will be informed of enrichment opportunities as they become available. The utmost effort is given to provide meaningful, interesting and age appropriate opportunities for each student and group of students. As I currently serve 65 students in grades K-12 in 6 school buildings in 3 school districts and in 4 communities, some opportunities may be missed due to scheduling or logistics. Occasionally, classes are canceled in order to facilitate enrichment opportunities for students. If possible, they are held another time. Rest assured that your student will receive, services per his/her IEP, but will also have off-campus opportunities which may be available only because someone else has given up a class time.
Elementary opportunities are usually offered to groups or classes. Junior high and high school classes meet once a week and enrichment opportunities are most often offered “a la carte.” Students are strongly encouraged to attend if the opportunity is one that is a new area to be explored, lends itself to his/her area of interest or strength and/or to the general education curriculum. Be advised that often times a cost is involved. Please read your emails, watch for new opportunities, encourage your child to attend and do the necessary paperwork in a timely manner. Also, if your student makes a reservation to attend, a last minute "change of mind" is not tolerated.
A significant part of my work is to serve as a “clearing house” for information. As I become aware of opportunities for your student, I will pass them on to you. Please, if you learn of an opportunity that might benefit any of my students….quickly email me the information, web address, or link and I will distribute it. These might be events, competitions, volunteer ops, scholarships, field trips, mentors for job shadows, summer jobs, etc. All information is greatly appreciated!
If you would be able to help supervise students on an enrichment excursion, please let me know.
Should you need to contact me, the most efficient way is by email. My email address is dee.wann@usd305.com. In case of emergency, my home telephone number is 785.227.2931. Questions and suggestions are always welcome! Again, I am looking forward to a great year working with you and your student!
